This Fujikura Model FSM-20CSII single fiber, core alignment, splicer is perfect for field use and for training in mid span and pigtail splicing. The splicer has holders for 1 fiber.

FSM 20 CSII Fusion Splicer
This unit splices same fibers with typical loss of less than 0.15 dB, which is the maximum specification recommended by the FOA. Typical loss is below 0.07 dB. Often, we see 0 dB singlemode splices.
The splicer has 20 built in menus for multimode and singlemode fibers. The splicer has 110 VAC and 12 VDC inputs. The splicer has built-in fusion splice cover-heating oven. We have been using this splicer in training for the last 2 years without any problems.
This splicer has so many features that you will agree that it is a bargain. 22 of these features are:

2. the ability to modify these menus to minimize loss
3. measurement of the cleave angle of the fibers in two axes
4. an adjustable cleave angle acceptance value
5. automatic estimation of splice loss
6. memory for 100 splice loss measurements
7. DC operation for field use
8. AC operation for laboratory and inside use

Fujikura CT07 and CT04 cleavers
These exceptional cleavers will provide excellent service in training and field installation. Some have been reconditioned with new parts. All provide low cleave angles. Average cleave angle is below 0.7 degrees. The fiber alignment plate allows cleaving of 250 m fiber and 900 m tight tubes.

Precision Cleavers Produce Typical Angle Below 1 Degree
While we cannot claim that these used cleavers are the best available, we have made more than 6000 cleaves and splices with these cleavers, with typical splice losses under 0.07 dB. Almost all cleave angles are under 0.7degrees, with many values between 0 and 0.4 degrees. For our money, you cannot get better performance for the money.
We documented the cleave angle test results Eye on Fiber, Vol. 1, Issue 2.
We supply a manual, a cover, and test results from ten cleaves with the cleaver. The test results will average less than 1 degree.
First come, first serve. When we run out, we do not expect to be able to obtain more at this low price.
With cost of new cleavers between $1200 and $1500, our price, while they last, is an incredibly low $500.00. For $625, we will supply the cleavers with a new scribing blade. The new blades are claimed to offer 12,000 cleaves. We run out of units that average less than 1 degree,

USED FOUR WAVELENGTH Tektronix 3031 OTDR
These Tektronix Model 3031s test multimode and singlemode at a total of four wavelengths: 850 nm, 1300 nm, 1310 nm, and 1550 nm. It stores traces to floppy disk or to hard drive. We include a manual, ST-compatible, battery back, AC power cord, power supply, instruction manual and soft case.

3031 Screen With Training Trace
Tektronix has a well-deserved reputation for accuracy and reliability. We started using this family of OTDRs in 1996. In fact, at request of a friends, I helped motivate Tek management to design and offer the multimode unit. We are still impressed and delighted with the performance. We have been using this unit for the last four years with excellent results.
Brand new, these units sold for $20,00-$24,000. Price for this OTDR with carrying case, keyboard and battery pack: $5,900. Without keyboard, $5,700.

USED TWO WAVELENGTH
MULTIMODE TEST KIT
This test kit is ideal for both trainers and installers. This test kit allows you to test 62.5 m cables with either ST-compatible or SC connectors with the same results as a test set that is in full compliance with TIA/EIA-568-B. With additional 50 m reference leads, you can test 50 m cables. With additional LC reference leads, you can test LC cables. [TIA/EIA-568-B requires a Method B, single lead reference test and a Category 1 source.]
This test kit consists of a
1. source
2. power meter
3. ST-compatible meter adapter (Photograph below, top right)
4. SC meter adapter (Photograph below, top right)
5. LC meter adapter (Photograph below, top right)
6. one mandrel for 62.5 m core reference cables (Photograph below, bottom)
7. one mandrel for 50 m core reference cables (Photograph below, bottom)
8. 2 ST-compatible 62.5 m reference cables
9. 2 SC 62.5 m reference cables
10. 2 ST-compatible barrels (Photograph below, bottom)
11. 2 SC barrels and an (Photograph below, bottom)
12. AC power supply (Photograph below, bottom).
The source is a Fotec Model S dual wavelength (850 nm and 1300 nm) stabilized light source (Photograph below, top left). This source is a Category 2 source that provides the same loss measurements as a Category 1 source from 2 m to at least 220 m (See Part 1 of Eye On Fiber, V.2, I3 for test data.)

Fotec Test Set With Method B Reference
Our testing indicates that the stability of output power is excellent: within 0.05 dB during operation with the AC supply.
Stability with battery operation will be the same until the battery approaches the end of its useful life. The LED status indicator goes out before the battery reaches the end of its useful life, so you can make additional accurate measurements.
The meter is a Fotec M with calibrations at 850 nm, 1300 nm and 1550 nm (Photograph below, top right). The meter measures absolute power level in dBm dB, mW, and W. The meter measures relative power in dB, so the meter reading will be the link loss. The display indicates mode of operation, wavelength of calibration and power level at resolutions of either 0.1 dB or 0.01 dB. The 0.01 dB resolution is ideal for laboratory testing and training.
Battery life is excellent: it can be 6 months.
Fifteen years ago, we were so impressed with the quality and performance of Fotec equipment that we standardized our training programs on these products. We have never regretted that decision. We have been using Fotec Ms for 23 years without a single failure.
The mandrels are for 3 mm, 62.5 m reference cables and comply with the testing requirements of TIA/EIA-568-B (Photograph below, bottom).
The reference leads have singlemode connectors and are qualified to a single ended loss of below 0.5 dB. Typical single end losses are 0.3 dB or less. With these qualified leads, good connectors will test good. The risk with unqualified leads is that good connectors can test bad.
The
price of a comparable new kit would be $1000-$1500.
Price
for this kit: $250.
Multimode ST-Compatible Connectors
